Athens has much to offer and one could spend an entire vacation in this city just exploring its many sights. Must see sights include the Acropolis with the Parthenon temple, The National Archaeological Museum and the Byzantine Museum waith their awe-inspiring collection of ancient artifacts and the fascinating Plaka district.
West along the coast on route 91 towards Cape Sounion enjoy the magnificent beaches and sea views. At the cape the Temple of Poseidon constructed in 444BC stands atop a craggy spur 65 metres above the sea. The inland route 89 back towards Athens winds through a rich country of olive and grape cultivation, through towns like Peania, the birthplace of the orator Demosthenes.
E94 in the direction of Corinth and the Peloponnese lets you explore the town of Corinth with its graceful ruins, Mycenae with the famous lion gates and ruins, Argos the site of extensive and fascinating ruins and the relaxed seaside town Nafplio.
E962 northwards takes you to Thebes; west along routes 3 and 48 brings you to the beautiful valley with its collection of temples atDelphi.
North along E95, route 30 and then E92 takes you to Lamia located at the western end of the Maliakos Gulf, through the bustling agricultural town of Trikala to reach Meteora with its monasteries constructed in bizarre rock formations.
Road E90 east brings you to Thessaloniki on the Thermaic Gulf a treasure trove of Byzantine interest. South along road E75 you’ll approach the village of Litohoro from which the snowy summit of Mt. Olympus can be admired.
